Resident Evil 7 Has More Than 80,000 Gamers Playing On VR

If you’ve played any of games in the Resident Evil series, you know they can be downright scary on a big TV screen, or a good computer monitor. But VR? That’s a whole new level of fear.

According to a recent announcement from the game’s official website, more than 80,000 gamers have opted in to play Resident Evil 7: Biohazard using the Sony PlayStation VR headset.

Resident Evil 7 VR Player Stats

When gamers load up Resident Evil 7 the first time, they can opt-in to allow some of their stats to be collected. Most of this shows things like how much distance they’ve covered in the game, or how long it took them to beat the game. Among these stats are numbers for how many are using the PlayStation VR headset to play the game.

According to official number’s it’s nearly 10% of all Resident Evil: Biohazard players. This definitely goes to show just how big VR is and how big of a success Sony’s PlayStation VR headset has been. After all, it was one of the best selling headsets during the 2016 holiday shopping season.

One thing to keep in mind regarding the numbers we see above is that the total number of players include not only those playing on the PS4, but also on the Xbox One and PC as well. Because of that, we have no way of knowing just how many PS4 owners are opting in to play in VR.

What we do know is that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a PSVR exclusive. So for those that own an Oculus Rift or an HTC Vive, you’re out of luck if you want to play the game in all of its VR goodness. We remain hopeful that when the exclusivity deal between Sony and Capcom expires next year, that we’ll see it ported over to the PC where many more people can enjoy it.
